I'm wondering if I'm going to have this baby early. We thought the baby may have dropped about two weeks ago - my husband thought it looked like my belly was a lot lower and I had these new sensations of pelvic pressure and needing to pee incessantly. Last Saturday, I felt great and went insane and cleaned closets and stuff. Then on Sunday, I felt absolutely awful - I had severe pelvic pain and could barely walk around at work. The pelvic pain has continued throughout the week, but gotten somewhat less severe. In the middle of the week, I started having hard/painful, long, frequent Braxton Hicks at work. It freaked my coworkers and my boss out and they were all telling me to call the doctor and go to the hospital, lol. My boss told me I could go home early and I did - when I got home, I drank a bunch of water, put my feet up, and used the heating pad on my back - the contractions went away. The doctor said to go in if they were five minutes apart for two hours (I obviously did not go because they stopped). I have cried multiple times every single day this week and it has been over either absolutely nothing or something stupid (like someone beeping at me in traffic). I have not cried much or been emotional very frequently in this pregnancy until this week. I also started having menstrual cramps sensations and low back pain this week and (sorry for TMI) I've begun to have a LOT of BM's. I've been off for two days now and suddenly all I want to do is sleep. My nose is stuffy and I just don't feel good. I don't want to be around anybody or talk on the phone, either, so I have been kind of isolating myself.

Any of this sound familiar to anyone as being signs of impending labor or is this just how the next several weeks are going to be? Because this sucks. :sigh:

The cramping and frequent bathroom trips you describe would match what I experienced a couple days before delivery. I didn't really get into the house-cleaning thing, but I did feel like doing a lot of other things! The day before DD was born I went shopping and went to some craft fairs by myself, on my feet for several hours. The whole time I had pelvic pain and period-like cramps. But I didn't want to just go home and sit. With DS I went out for dinner with a group of friends while in actual labor. Again, didn't want to sit and do nothing.

So, some of what you wrote I can relate to, but other things, not really. I didn't feel stuffy (or sick in any other way), and was not wanting to feel isolated. The last month for me was frustrating, just being tired of the whole thing physically and mentally, but wasn't really a wreck emotionally. Just tired of being tired and frustrated about it.

You probably already know this but labor is different for everybody.:)

Hope you feel better soon!

It could be signs of labor coming soon, or it couldn't! That's what stinks about late pregnancy. Definitely stay hydrated, it's a good sign that drinking water and relaxing stopped the contractions. The pelvic pain is normal, even though it sucks, I always had worse pelvic pain and pressure after doing a lot on my feet (like my daily laps around the mall, lol) As for being emotional... well, I'm pretty much an emotional wreck for the entirety of my pregnancies, so the end wasn't much different for me, lol!

The last month of pregnancy SUCKS. Everyone told me I'd go early and had 2 39 weekers.

Out of curiosity, what did pelvic pain feel like for you all? I feel it here, basically (except really low - not up in the area near my belly button - and mostly on the sides near my bikini area)...

I feel like my bones hurt in that area or something. It hurts when I lay on either side in bed, so I have been sleeping in a recliner. It is worse when I first get up from sitting but tends to get better with walking.

Does that sound familiar or were your pains different?

On the end the pelvic pain down low can feel awful. It's like heavy pressure. It's already started with this baby being my third. I think your hips hurt because everything is getting stretchy to be ready for the big day.

I remember my bones hurting, so I guess that's normal. Especially my hips and lower back. I didn't have period type cramps until my water was broke but the emotions and other things happened to me too.

By the way, I got over my desire to sleep today and attacked my house again. I am sure my body will punish me for that tomorrow.

Sounds like normal last few weeks of pregnancy to me. There are really no signs of when you will go into labor. And it's normal to drop early in a first pregnancy.

Sounds a lot like the pelvic pain I had. It was much worse for me the second time around, but I'm sure the back to back pregnancies didn't help. Hang in there!!

Bleh, I have developed a cold now. No wonder I was feeling so icky the last couple of days.

Going to work today with the normal preggo symptoms plus being stuffy, having a sore throat, and having body aches was super fun. That and I had two hours of sleep last night because of the baby kicking keeping me from going to sleep and then Braxton Hicks waking me up.

I complains. :'(

Update: lost my mucous plug. Was told to come in if I have more than 6 contractions in an hour. So this could be interesting.

Or not.

Your mucus plug can regenerate. Have you had any bloody show?

Awwww, sounds miserable :( I hope your cold goes away!

Mrs. B - I had dark brown discharge and mucous (yay, lovely TMI!) and the doctor said that was the mucous plug. It wasn't the textbook jellyfish scary blob, but she said that a lot of times the mucous plug does not come out all at once.

Update: cold seems to be improving. Braxton Hicks continue. I got woken up what seems like 500 times last night from strong period like cramps that had me moaning in my sleep. I was so out of it, though, from my busy day that I was like "I should time these but... I don't care... snore".

Mine didn't come out all at once either, it came out in huge chunks throughout the day. You can clearly see in one of the pictures right after DS was born, he had another chunk stuck to his head, lol!

I can't believe how close you are!!

I can't believe it, either. I'm actually on here using a contraction timer right now. It is probably just Braxton Hicks again, though (which is fine by me).

I lost some of my mucus plug around 39 weeks, then lost more and had bloody show the day I went into labor at 41 weeks. Besides that and my increasingly regular contractions, I didn't have any other signs that made me think that things were gonna happen on their own!

I have now decided I want him to wait - like not be late, but not too early. I want to be on vacation and be able to rest and get things done before he comes.

Update: Had bad contractions all night and morning, no appetite, loose stools, etc - got checked this afternoon and I am 1cm dilated (and it was confirmed that my mucous plug is indeed gone). So, I am officially in "early labor", but the doctor says that doesn't tell us much about when the baby will come. I could stay 1cm dilated for a while. I don't anticipate Jacob coming like NOW, but it will be interesting to see how this progresses.

Not trying to burst your bubble  but just be aware that you can walk around dilated for weeks (and at several cms as well). I just know it can be psychologically hard on women if they're expecting baby to come soon and then it doesn't. You're still only 37 weeks and first babies on average don't come until about 41 weeks. Your body definitely sounds like it's gearing up for the main event but it could still be several weeks  Although these last weeks seem to drag on forever, you'll soon wonder why time is flying by so fast when your baby is here. Hang in there, Mama :) These last weeks are so important for your baby's body systems to mature, especially their lungs. Your baby knows when it's the perfect time for it to be born :)

To echo what Sage said, you can definitely walk around dilated for weeks. I was 2 cm and 70% effeaced at 36 weeks, 3 cm at 37-38 weeks, 3.5 cm at 39 weeks, and 4 cm and 90% effaced at 40 weeks...still didn't go into labor until 41 weeks!! AND I was working 12 hour shifts and walking a LOT all the way up to my due date. I had a VERY stubborn little dude on my hands. On the bright side I was already 7 cm and 100% when I went to the hospital and had an easy labor and delivery. I had really gotten my hopes up that my progress meant I'd deliver right at my due date if not a little early, so that made that extra week go by EXTREMELY slowly and torturously and I seriously thought he would never come.

Your little man will be here before you know it, though! And as he grows you'll wonder where in the world the time has gone! I still can't believe the baby that started out as a tiny little bean a year ago is already 3 months old now!

To echo the ladies before me, you can definitely walk around dilated for weeks. And also to elaborate on littlemrs. post~ the more work your body does Before actually going into active labor, the quicker active labor goes. Hang in there! :)

Still no baby.... this weekend, I am SO SLEEPY. All I have done is sleep. I want to do things around the house and I have tried to do a bit, but then I get worn out and want to sleep again. I feel like I am drugged. Anybody else remember having something like this in the third trimester? I feel like I am back in the first trimester...

Sage

Of course you want to sleep! Your body is working very hard. Rest all that you can while you still can ;)

So, I guess I just forgot about this place after I gave birth to Jacob! He was born naturally on July 22, 2013 at three in the morning. He weighed 11 pounds, 3 ounces and was 23 inches long! He is currently 14 months old --- and --- he has a little sister due in November! :jaw-dropping:

Here are some pics of him right after he was born and some from recently:

Thank you! So, I am on maternity leave earlier than anticipated because on Oct. 23rd I ended up in the hospital having contractions 3 minutes apart. They sent me home eventually because I was only a little bit dilated and effaced and had no change. I then got sick with strep the next week and I'm still not better (IMO because of a mess up with antibiotics but I won't go into all that). I think being sick made my uterus calm down, though. I will be 37 weeks on Saturday so I'm hoping to hang in there this week at least (and hopefully more than that so I can get some things done). Tomorrow, I go in for an ultrasound to check the baby's size. I'm scared lol.
