Here's a place we can post pics of our completed arts and crafts projects. I finished a couple recently. I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Those are awesome!

If I ever complete any of my started projects (mostly crochet) I will post pics. I have a horrible habit of starting, getting 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through and then giving up for a while.

They are really nice. Is that with glass paints??
Good job!
When I get back from holiday I'm going to get into workshop and get some more creations done.
I'm doing some shows over the summer so really want to get some nice bits done. I'm getting my etsy and folksy shops up and running then too... YAY!

Thanks!

They are painted on the reverse side. The big one is plastic and the 3-paned one is glass. I just used acrylic craft paints. It will scrape off if I want to change the design some day. Maybe they'll flake some day too. Ah, well...:)

Can't wait to see what everyone else has done.

Nice job Lucy. I never remember to take photos of my creative projects which is slightly ironic considering one of my creative outlets is photography.

More stuff

necklaces made from washers and though it's not exactly a craft, more of a collection, some of my favorite tiny beachcombing treasures.

katzankatz
08-01-2011, 08:07 PM
yet more stuff

t-shirt flower
decoupaged tins
heat-shrunk fabric flowers
seashell pendant

(I don't know what it is about fabric flowers. I could make them all day long. The possibilities are endless)

I forgot about this thread!

Nice work ladies!

I love the chain mail work Revenwyn... I've always wanted to do that, but never got round to learning the patterns. I have plenty of jump rings around to make them, just never got around to doing it

I love your imagination Lucy. The stuff yoiu've made is really cute!

As for me, I've made some pictures recently, i'll have to get them uploaded to photobucket so I can put them on here as I don't know if we can upload them directly from the computer.

But yesterday DH said I could buy the ring saw I've wanted for the last few months. We had some extra money when he moved from his old job to his new one so he said I could use some of it buy it!

Should be here in the new few days, so I can have great fun cutting some lovely things out of glass! Will post when I get some stuff done!

lucy, are you selling the things you create? Those are amazing!Thank you. I have sold some things, but mostly I just stash them, and have given some things away as gifts. I have not put enough thought into selling stuff. My sister and I have talked about having some kind of sale on the things we make, but we have no real plans.

I've been a pretty crafty lady here lately, lol. I made a dress for Cassy's doll here awhile back, I made an apron for myself and an apron for Cassy, and I made my first attempt at a crazy quilt block, I am going to make a wallet out of it.

The pendant wasn't hard or time-consuming at all. It took longer to gather supplies than to put it together:).

I have a stash of seashells and lots of the clam ones already have a little hole in a spot by the hinge. I'm not sure why they have holes. Anyway... You twist a hanging loop at the top of the wire, slip it through the hole in the shell, then put some beads on the wire, and make a fancy swirl at the other end of the wire. TA DA!

This isn't completed, obviously, but I'm attempting to sew a new cover onto Megan's chair. We got it as a hand me down from my brother & SIL, but it was kind of old looking, so I've decided to sew a new cover, by sewing fabric down onto the existing seat pad. I'm using two old pillowcases, the red and the polar bears. I'm pretty happy with how it looks so far! :)

I started playing around with the mass of glass stringers I have in the workshop. I was making some more plates, then I dropped a load of them on the worktop and they fanned out.
I thought it looked amazing so I did it in a bit more of a controlled manner.
I'm majorly pleased with how well they have turned out :)

These really are pretty! There's a glass art studio local to me that does courses in stained and fused glass - something I'd really love to learn more about when money allows. It's encouraging to see your work and what can be done, thanks for sharing :D

You should so have a go Kehaar. I started out with fused jewellery and when my kiln went bang we bought a bigger kiln so I could expand into the glassware and glass art... Until I get a bigger kiln again I'll never be able to make it a job, but I love that I still have it as a hobby.

My next skill to learn is flameworking. DH isn't too keen on the idea of me and a naked flame but he has said if I do a course then maybe when I come back from Zambia next year we can get the equipment. But I need to do a course first to make sure I can do it successfully. It's expensive stuff to just buy without knowing if you can do it :)

I'm really keen to try stained glass although the fused glass course still interests me. I've seen so many pretty pieces of fused glass jewellery, so it's still something I plan to get round to. I may actually have some spare cash this autumn so getting excited!

Flameworking looks great as well. You make lampwork beads that way, yes? Or am I getting myself confused :dizzy:

purple
07-25-2012, 02:41 AM
Yea, lampwork and flameworking is the same thing really. Someone advertised some lampwork equipment on a local network the other week and I was so tempted, but I just can't justify the money right now.
I've never done stained glass. It's not something that interests me, but some lovely stuff can be made that way.

Here are some of the things I have been working on.
I'm pretty happy with the way the bag turned out, as it was kind of an experiment. I am making a diaper bag right now that is simliar but a lot bigger and more pockets for diapers and bottles. I actually think I love making these bags because you really can use different sewing techniches and make each one look completely different. I think I am going to use up my scraps and make one that is crazy-quilted when I am done with the diaper bags!

The bookmarks, eh, I like em but found a much better way to do them. Will post pics when I make more!

I love the headband but I have a dang cone head and can't keep them on! Cassy wears it though!

I love the bag too... My sewing still leaves a lot to be desired!!

I've realised I have a crazy amount of glass cut and not enough time to fire it all before my big craft show next weekend so I'm waiting to hear back from a lady in a town not far from me to see if I can hire out her whole kiln for a BIG firing... will make a HUGE difference!

Sam
07-29-2012, 11:56 PM
Oh purple, trust me, I have a long way to go in my sewing!

Here are a couple of other things I have been working on.
Those pillows are from our old, worn out and much loved concert t shirts. Now I realize that having a throw pillow that says Nashville Sucks is trashy lol but its my favorite singer and one of DH's favorite old shirts. The red one that says "I love PG" obviously I am not done with lol. Have a couple more to make. DH loves them! He piles them up on the couch and gets all comfy! LOL

The necklace isnt all that crafty, really, but its sentimental. Thing is, I had a couple of necklaces and bracelets that meant a lot to me but had broken. I decided since they were from women in my family that I would make a necklace using charms or pendants from all the women in my family. I have called or texted most of the ladies in my fam to get something from them to put on the chain. I am going to get a cuter chain but this is what I have for the time being. Its going to be pretty full by the time I am done! Anyway, this necklace can remind me that I am in the company of some really amazing women, and I can look at each of them and remember things they have taught me, their strengths, whatever makes them who they are, or were. Hopefully I can draw inspiration and strength just thinking about them. Cassy loves it, she already knows what represents who lol.

Oh Thank God I am done with the baby gifts for my aunt!
Here they are! Diaperbag, and I turned it inside out also so you could see the interior pockets. I am pleased with how it turned out! One quilt has itty bitty snowmen on it. Its flannel on one side, regular 100% cotton on the other. The other quilt is the same. I appliqued the babys name, and I got through one letter and realized I am not a fan of the red blanket stitch. :( Too late now! I hope she likes it! I am done done done. These things should have been super easy and quick to complete but I have had so many issues with them and made some of the dumbest mistakes!

Now I have to make a Toy Story pillow and nightgown I promised Cassy.

My dd is begging me to sew her a Lovesac (knockoff of course) beanbag. I found a tutorial online, and it looks doable, but it looks like stuffing would cost at least $125. Still, I might actually do it! She has offered to do chores for it and even some cooking. Hmm...

I'm making the pieces for the nursery this time rather than buying a whole rip-off bedding set. So far, I've made a window valance and a blanket for the baby. Next up is the crib skirt once I have the crib set to its highest setting to get measurements. I've also done a few canvas wall hangings (gluing scrapbook paper to a blank canvas!) and have sanded and primed my dad's old dresser, it just needs to be painted black and given new drawer pulls. :)

I also made Megan a blanket too (both the baby's and hers are minky blankets. Soooo soft, and easy!!) for her big girl bed. :)

I made this quilt last week for DH's cousin and his wife who are expecting their first baby. I didn't take a good pic of it because I thought it turned out awful, lol but they liked it (or they were just being nice lol) it is soft and plushy though, I used jersey knit material and doubled the batting. I machine binded it which I will never do again, and I did rounded corners so I wouldn't have to miter them. All that was to save time because I only had a week to finish it.
Those are scotty dogs and wienie dogs if you can't tell lol.

That quilt is awesome:). I can't tell what "turned out awful". Are the dogs printed on the fabric or are they appliqued? Either way it's really cute.

Ugh. I need to get going on some projects.

Well, its hard to tell from a pic but the lines are really sloppy. I had a very hard time keeping it straight, IDK if it was the material or what. The binding looks sloppy also. Hopefully its just something that I would notice and no one else lol. The dogs are appliqued which I am kind of proud of because I drew the pattern for them myself. :) I blanket stitched around them.

I am working now on a pair of slippers for Cassy out of an old sweatshirt, and I think I am going to make her a Christmas blanket out of old Christmas sweatshirts, like people on Pinterest make quilts out of tshirts. But I am not going to quilt it, I think the inside of the sweat shirts will be soft and warm on their own. I really like repurposing stuff! Oh, and that quilt is what I was making when I said my machine had a mind of its own! :P I think I figured out though why I couldn't keep it straight, since I doubled up on the batting, my step MIL and I figured out that I should have probably used a longer stitch. Lesson learned. :)

Yep. I think I am better at making something else out of what I already have than I am going to the store, buying a pattern and fabric. :) Somehow we ended up with like a 3 xl shirt and I made a pair of pj bottoms out of it, they ended up being a little too tight but since I have lost weight they fit me perfectly, I just need to put an elastic waistband on it and I am done. Why haven't I done that yet? :P

I finished Cassy's Christmas blanket! I'm really happy with how it turned out. So fun and colorful and funky! I love projects like this because there is no need for precision or perfection, I just do what I want and make it work. :P It only took a max of 3 hours to make, too and that's always cool. :) I put the seams on the front of the blanket because I like the raggedy look of it, but also I figured that would make the inside more comfy. Who wants to snuggle up with a bunch of seams? It threw me off a coupld of times though, putting the wrong sides together instead of the right. It turned out a lot bigger than I planned but that's good cuz she won't grow out of it for a few years. I also figure that when she gets bigger I can just cut the hem off and add more pieces to it when she outgrows more sweatshirts. :)

Of hers it took 4 shirts and 2 pants and of mine it took 2 shirts. Because the design pieces were irregular and the other pieces were small thats why I did the random patchy thing and that was probably the funnest part of it. I trimmed a little to close to the edges in some places so I had to touch them up after I washed it but other than that I think it will be virtually indestructable! I'll be honest, after I did the first strip I was tempted to make a scarf for me. :P

Here is the baby's nursery. It's still pretty messy!

I made the crib skirt, the blanket on the crib, the window valance, the wall hangings above the crib, the blanket on the rocking chair (that blanket matches the one on the crib, it's yellow minky on one side and the grey animal print on the other side) and we refinished the dresser. It was a very ugly brown with nasty drawer pulls, so we sanded, painted and put on new drawer pulls. I love it!

All in all, I'm pretty proud of it. I don't know how much money we really saved in the long run over buying a bedding set (I'm sure we did, those are expensive!), but the dresser was actually more expensive than I thought to refinish.

Sam

I'm in the process of acquiring the necessary supplies to make a few cat toys that are more durable than some of the ones we currently have. I'm tired of constantly repairing Pip's toy mice. The ongoing joke in our family is that "daddy doesn't understand our art" lol he likes matchy matchy, neat, orderly, clean, probably has to do with his OCD. Cassy and I are the opposite, we like random, colorful, bright. So he doesn't always see what things can be. Usually, after it's done he likes it (or says he does) lol. He's actually come quite a ways along though, I've been making a windchime out of random stuff and he even came up with the idea for the base.
I'm sure when Cassy's project is done and I hang it from the ceiling he will not object.

I made these scrubby dishcloths out of 2 pieces of old t shirt material and those plastic mesh bags like what produce and some toys come in, in the middle. So they scrub, but don't scratch but more importantly (IMO) they don't collect gross gunk from dishes like other scrubby cloths and sponges do. I made one and I use it so much that I had to make a couple more lol. It took 10 minutes and he best part is they are free!

I'm really pleased with how it's come out... Now I just need to work on the stands but we seem to have that figured out too thanks to my dad...

I have to confess I do not know what that is, but it's cool! Did you cut out all the spaces?

It's glass with a special transfer on it which I designed myself.

It's when fused on, put in a specially made wooden mount with tea-lights behind it :)

I've been working on this for the last week, it seems to actually distract my mind from the pain a bit...

I've bought some brush pens which makes it much easier! With my other fibre tips yea, I get cramp and since they put the canula in my right hand it's aching now so I'm sticking to the brush pens right now :)

Ah, I was wondering what you'd used. I didn't think it looked like regular market.

This isn't it completely finished, I've painted the spike stick since taking this photo and I need to put the target vinyl on but I'm pretty chuffed with it...

Basically someone sits under the basket... a balloon full of water goes in the basket, you throw a ball or small water balloon at the target (where the black hole is in that photo) that throws the stick back which is hinged so the spike comes forward, bursts the balloon and the person below gets wet!
